9-22-08 Austin Texas to Hope AK

Two of these are two of our favorite pictures. The shadow one of us in motion on the goldwing and the sunset behind us on the Goldwind in motion.

We were blessed with yet another beautiful day to be traveling on the bike.

Tomorrow we plan to head to Branson MO and take the scenic route 7.

more pictures to follow. I'm doing my best to catch up but I can't sleep on the bike ride so I must sign off and get some sleep.

9-22-08 Austin to Hope Ak

We thought we'd include some pictures of the Gold Wing. I know a lot of people were skeptical that I would be able to pack for 16 days in the space that you see in the pictures.

Those that know me well know I like to keep things in my trunk to be prepared for just about anything.

Well, what you see is it. Our warm jackets, chaps, rain gear, two sets of gloves, boots, helmets, cover for the bike and one umbrella. Any space left was for clothes and incedentials.

We were just commenting that we used just about everything we took with us.

We don't know if you can see it with the coats hanging on the front of the bike. We have two water bottles in insulated carriers hanging from the wind wings.

9-21-08 Time to Leave Texas

9-21-08 Texas

Dusty at his research office. The other pictures are at the restaurant "Ranch" It looks like a real ranch.

It is called Salt Lick.

Dusty and Kaley were told it was really good. The food was good BBQ food.

We learned quickly that BBQ doesn't mean meat with BBQ sauce on it. It means cooked on the BBQ and sauce is given to you in a small container/bolw with your meal.

9-21-08 Craves and University Campus

We tried out a new restaurant Dusty and Kaley liked. It was a sushi place. They said it was really good.

Samon, tuna, rainbow, eel and more.

Margie has cashew chicken.

The fountain was on campus. The next group of pictures will be at the University of Texas

9-21-08 Capitol Austin Texas

There is a story to go with the cannon. Margie is standing by it because in fact a woman shot it off into a crowd of men.

The capitol was Austin, It was then thought to be better in Houston. I don't remember who was in office when it moved to Houston. Mr. Austin had the capitol in Austin. Even though the capitol was moved to Houston for a time the important papers stayed in Austin. That is until some Houston men came to steal them. A woman, sorry don't remember her name, tried to stop them by shooting the cannon at them. The cannon alerted the Austinites and they stopped them. Another attempt was made and was successful. However some austinites followed them with cannon in tow. The houton men agreed the papers should stay in Austin and they turned them over.

9-20-08 and 9-21-08 Places In Austin Texas

We tried to eat at places that reflected the area we were in. In the next groups of pictures you'll see some of our culinary tour of Austin / Texas.

We visited the capitol of Texas in Austin too.It was very nice but not as ornate as say, Harrisburg PA.

The pink outside granite was from Marble Falls in Texas. We drove there and took some pictures. I didn't come across them yet. When I do I will include them. There was a big dispute as to whether it would be granite or limestone if I remember correctly. The people from Marble Falls just started shipping the pink granite to the building site and it was used, discussion over I guess.

9-20-08 Duck Tour of Austin

We went on a duck tour of Austin. We learned a lot about Austin's history. A duck tour is the same vehicle takes you on a land tour and into the water.

We had a detour due to the pecan festival. We walked through part of it and no pecans to be found.

On the tour we learned that 6th street use to be pecan street, hence the street the festival is on.

The computer is slow so I just picked a few.
