9-19-08 These pictures were taken by Longhorn Caverns. We missed the tour but enjoyed the area.
Many young men were out of work and being a burden to their parents.
The Army oversaw the project and thousands and thousands of young men signed up. They built the walls on the parkways, this building and many like it for the park systems, some carved items and furniture. The men earned $30 a month. $25 was sent home to the parents and the men kept $5 a month.
We hope you'll take time to look up on line all the things the CCC did. You'll be very surprised. CCC stands for Civilian Conservation Corp.
Norm is standing by one of the outside walls. It is wood chinking.
I don't know if I spelled that correctly. If you look closely you'll see the tree pieces in their natural curved state.
